This is an analytical position, with some creativity and a happy working environment wherein you will work primarily on your own. The position is a new one for our company, thus job responsibilities are subject to change as we work through the implementation of the position and learn what is most effective/efficient.
This position requires the buyer to be at basecamp (our headquarters in Lexington, VA) at least twice a week and to periodically travel to all stores as well as work on the sales floor. You will also attend tradeshows, which will require out-of-state travel.
This position requires a lot of mathematical analysis.

POSITION: STORE MANAGER

Salary & Hours: $45,000-$55,000, dependent on experience. Most weeks you will work about 40 hours, but it’s whatever it takes to do the job well! As expected in retail, we are open seven days a week. You will be expected to work some weekends and on and around major holidays. We are closed tentatively on New Year’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Evaluation:
Communication is key, and we believe feedback is a gift! We provide consistent coaching throughout the
year to assist with your growth in the company as well as conduct a thorough 90-day review as well as an annual review to
discuss strengths/weaknesses, store needs, goal setting, etc.
Responsibilities included, but not limited to:
• Have a lot of fun, be happy and encourage happiness!!
• Excellent customer service when working on the sales floor. Having a thorough understanding of being on the retail sales floor & selling techniques, which include a thorough knowledge of the products and how they work.
• Computer skills - you will be using the following programs: Excel, Word, QuickBooks Point of Sale, b2b (internet ordering program), Dropbox, PDF Expert, Facebook, Instagram, Google docs, SLACK and Outlook email.
• Preseason purchasing – attending tradeshows and seeing vendor product lines, placing preseason orders for all doors. Communicate with vendor representatives. Plan travel for tradeshows for all attendees and schedule appointments.
• Increase sales through inventory management & control in stores/online – maintaining proper inventory levels, transferring inventory between stores, mathematical analysis, creating & implementing an annual/monthly buying plan.
• Analyze product sell-through, margin, inventory valuation, inventory turns, strategically look at item/cost analysis, determine markdowns, keep prices up to date.
• Direct & set up end of season sales twice/year, communicating instructions to all stores so they can effectively prep for each sale season.
• Monitor the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance (GOA) SLACK communication system to stay on top of what is happening in our buying group, network, learn from others, etc.
• Organization & time management – this position requires great organization skills to track daily/monthly/seasonal tasks.
• Merchandising – lead merchandising efforts in stores relating to current marketing campaigns, implement merchandising strategies throughout the company and give feedback to stores consistently.
• Order private label merchandise – determine products & embellishments. Grow our private label line to increase margins.
• Order holiday impulse/pick up items annual and monitor sell through, reorder as needed.
• Train, monitor, and assist Store Managers with weekly ASAP/fill in orders for their stores to ensure they have what they should have at the right time.
• Monitor reorder points and update as needed.
• Upload all inventory into our point-of-sale system prior to every season to ensure product is ready to be received in store when it lands.
• Work closely with the marketing team to determine end of season sales, product launches, email campaigns related to inventory; create, and implement in-store signage, such as sleeping bag/tent/shoe signage and keep it up to date.
• Product training – work closely with the District Manager on the product training section of the monthly staff meeting agenda. Create videos/training for each seasonal change to teach staff about new product and their features/benefits.
• This is a physically demanding job, and you must be able to lift 40lbs, stand for long periods, stoop, reach, climb ladders, stairs, etc.
